Colva Beach


This beach is located at 15° 16' 35" N x 73° 54' 48" E (Latitude: 15.27644, Longitude: 73.91335). It is 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Margao and 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Panaji. The closest railway station is Margao.

How to Reach

One can avail taxi or bike from the town. Buses ply regularly to Colva beach from Margao KTC bus stand.


Colva beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Goa with 20kms of uninterrupted white and golden sand fringed with coconut palms. This lively beach has all the charms to make their holiday a memorable experience for visitors. Tourists, mainly Indian families adore this beach. The beach also has been the inspiration of many folk dances and songs also. Busy Colva Beach is a favorite amongst domestic Indian tourists, and day-trippers arrive by the bus loads. On the weekend, the crowd explodes with locals as well especially from November to February. The beach also gets particularly busy in October, when hoards of pilgrims come and visit Colva Church.

Nossa Senhora de Merces (Our Lady of Mercy) Church is situated near this beach. The church has a high baroque interior with plenty of gliding, colour, swirls and swags. The church is famous for Fama of Menino Jesus (Child Jesus), since the 17th century. It is also famous for its annual festival 'Fama of Menino Jesus' which is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of October every year. One of the famous feasts in Goa, people from all over Goa throng to this church to pay obeisance to the infant. A big fair is also held on the occasion.

The area is well developed with plenty of budget hotels, beach shacks, food stalls, and small restaurants and bars. The development hasn't however extended to nightlife, which is minimal apart from a few places.

There are plenty of beach activities for tourists at Colva beach, from sunbathing to water sports and nature watch. For speed lovers, water scooter ride, banana boat ride, jet skiing, speed boat rides and motorboat rides is the sport. Parasailing is also favorite beach activity of the visitors. Sunbathing is another popular activity on the beach. The Sunset view is amazing from the beach. Shopping is just minutes from the beach. The main road to Colva has many small square shops with clothing, crafts and jewelry. The shopkeepers are very friendly and bargaining is a part of shopping in Colva beach shops.
